ABOUT ME!

Who am I?

My name is Kim. I grew up in Northern Ontario on a agriculture farm where my family owned a successful farming business. I spent most of my youngest time in arenas skating and that is where I fell in love with being an athlete.

I started training at the Sturgeon Falls and North Bay Skating.  I went on to train at the Mariposa International Training Centre in Barrie, ON, in Richmond Hill, ON, Les 4 Glaces, Brossard, QC and ended my competitive career in Sudbury, ON.

I competed at 4 National Championships from 1999-2003 and in 2011, I was inducted in the West Nipissing Sports Hall of Fame. I later went on to coach a few years in the Ottawa area.

I graduated from a Business Diploma in Physical Fitness & Leisure Management and worked as a personal trainer at the Cambrian College Athletic Centre, later on managing the Sports Complex at a French College in Ottawa.

I worked in the events industry for over 15 years and just recently working in the projects management field. I’ve continued training in a variety of gyms, from the local community center, to a more intimate newly built gym to a premium fitness warehouse.

Today, married, mother of 2 girls who are both in competitive gymnastics. I work full- time at the uOttawa and love growing my health and fitness business connecting with other amazing individuals during my personal time.  I strive on inspiring others to achieve their goals and rise to their full potential.

How did I get involved in this BODI as a coach?

At the beginning of the pandemic, I was looking for some way to keep me focused to find balance. The girls were at home and all gyms were closed. I wanted to exercise, and YouTube channels were not working for me. There was a lack of commitment with these channels and I could not see the progress happening. I was taking more time looking for a workout than actually doing it.

I discovered my virtual fit platform and tried the 14-day free trial.  I immediately fell in love with this platform; the variety of fitness programs, the nutritional aspect, and the positive community. I signed up after my trial and one month later became a COACH! πŸ‘Š

I took an opportunity that presented itself to me. I was ready to make some change to improve my lifestyle. I learned to make better food choices, without depriving myself. I discovered a platform, a little gem, which made it possible to train with my reality of being a busy mom (at home during a global pandemic). I got BETTER results from my home workouts at home , only 30-45 minutes session. After all of these years, I figured that I do not have to workout 1 hours and + to get results.

My WHY

Becoming a mom absolutely changed my life. During that time, I had to find myself, my passion and make myself a priority, in order to be the best mom to my two girls. They are my WHY!

WHY AM I SHARING MY STORY?

I want to make a difference and help other women like yourself discover the importance of taking care of ourselves on a daily basis. That it is possible to want more for yourself. The importance of getting on the TOP of your priority list.

My mission is to make you discover that EVERYTHING is possible and much simpler than you think. Quite simply, to show you the way to reach YOUR goals. Guide you. Inspire you to take care of yourself daily. 🀩🀩🀩

What’s unique about me?

Maybe you can relate?

My weight has gone up and down throughout my adult life, but my body didn’t show it. I definitely felt it but nobody else could see it. I gained weight and I lost it. My body weight was always on my back mind. I grew up as a competitive athlete, competed at the National level, studied the field and never really realized how much I was passionate about the health industry until 18 months ago.

In 2001, my days consistent of on-and-off ice training at the rink and studying full-time in the fitness industry. I strived to compete at the National level! I fell so many times on the ice, and always got up, continued and never complained. I had an amazing community; coaches (some were better than others) who taught me so much about this sport and about disciplines, training, techniques and my family who were my number 1 fans. I loved figure skating. It brought me so much joy.

I’ve competed at the National level, retired from the sport and had to re-adjust my life as a post-athlete, which was difficult in understanding my life and who I was.

To 2020, when the pandemic started, I continued going to the gym with no real objectives but just to maintain my β€˜β€™athletic form’’.

Today, my days consist of being a full-time mom to 2 beautiful girls, a wife, a cleaning lady, a chef, a laundry queen, a cheerleader, a manager, a teacher, a nurse, a teacher, an organizer all while working a full-time job in the events industry as well as continuing my passion to help others achieve their lifestyle goals.

Each of our stories are different.

My story is not conventional.

I never had that β€˜β€™physical transformation’’ like others had. I’ve always worked-out and I’ve plateaued time after time. Never really reaching my ultimate goal. I have not reached my end-goal, but I am heading in the right direction and I am improving each and every single day. That, I am truly proud of.

My transformation is a result of consistency, and about creating a healthy mind, body, and spirit. My transformation has been gradual and empowering. It has been dynamic and fueled by lots of trial and error. I’ve gained energy, self-esteem, re-gained joy and opportunities for my mind and body.

I’ve learnt in the last few years to love myself with who I am and my beliefs, my value, my passions. I have created healthy boundaries.

My transformation continues for my lifetime. My journey continues to grow.

My skating memories always brings me back to where I came from and who I am.

I was fierce and had determination.

I had a vision with goals.

I kept pushing myself to achieve a certain level.

My goal was to compete at the national level against the top skaters in our country. My dreams came true and I had the opportunity to compete at four national championships.

This is who I am! We each have our story and be proud of your story, now, let’s move forward and be a better person every single day. Small steps = Big results

ACL & Meniscus Reconstructive Surgery

In October of 2020, I jumped on the trampoline with my girls. I decided to jump into a skating rotational move which I used to do a million time in my skating days. Withing the first rotational movement, my knee popped and I fell to the ground. I was in excruciating pain and had difficulty putting any kind of weight on it. I went to the ER that evening with nothing much to be done. There was not much they could do. In December of 2020, I was finally able to get an MRI in Ottawa where they confirmed that I had a torn ACL and Meniscus in my left knee.

On June 4, 2021, I had my ACL & Meniscus Surgery at the Montford Hospital by Dr. Marshall. During a ACL reconstruction, the torn anterior ligament is removed and replaced with a band of tissue that usually connects the muscle to the bone which is the tendon. The graft tendon is taken from another part of your knee.

My physiotherapist at Carleton University suggested that I have an ultra-sound done as I was complaining of pain under my left calf. On June 12, 2021, they found a blood cloth under my left knee post-surgery.

My post-recovery took 3 months to recuperate after my surgery. I visited my physiotherapist every week to build back my strength in my left leg.  Once, I was given the ok by my doctor at my 3-months timeline, I started my training with the LIIFT4 program with moderation exercises and spinning.

I am now able to run   and back to my full-time training. Thanks to this beautiful community, I was able to stay positive and keep working on myself. I took the time to read books, listen to great podcast and motivational videos. My mindset helped me to overcome many obstacles.
